Alabama Continuing Education Requirement:

Producers with even-number birth years are on a 2-year compliance period to renew in even-numbered years.  Producers with odd-number birth years are on a 2-year compliance period to renew in odd-number years.  During the 2-year compliance period a producer must attain 24 hours of continuing education of which 3 must be on the topic of ethics.

A producer or service representative employed by another producer or by an insurer to work only in the office of the employer and who is not licensed as a non-resident in any other state shall complete one-half the number of hours required of other producers, to include one-half the number of hours required to be on the topic of producer ethics or business practices.

An agent may carry-over up to 24 hours (12 hours for CSR’s) of continuing education credit to the next compliance period.  There are several other exemptions; those agents holding the CIC, CPCU, CLU, or ARM professional designations are exempted from the requirement. For a complete list of professional designation exemptions, contact the insurance department or they can be found on the license renewal form.  Also, those who have been licensed for 15 consecutive years in Alabama and who have reached the age of 60 are exempt. You must satisfy both license time and age to be exempt. An agent who is exempt from the CE law is also exempt from the ethics requirement.

Alabama students must have a proctor for the final exam.
