FAQs on Continuing Education and On-Line CE for Michigan
How do on-line programs work for CE in Michigan?
To receive continuing education credit, on-line final exams are required to be monitored by a disinterested third party (i.e. someone with no insurance business or family relationship to the student).
The monitor must complete the proctor form and return to MAIA.

When I pass an on-line exam how do I get my CEs?
Upon passing the exam and submission of the affidavit of personal responsibility, a CE certificate will be issued to you for your personal records and it will also be submitted to Prometric for the state records.

Can I take the same CE courses more than once?
Yes, however credit will not be allowed if the date for a second completion of the same course is within the same compliance period.

How many credits do I need for Continuing Education and how long do I have to get them?
A licensed agent needs to complete 24 credits every two years.

Do all 24 credits need to be in the license I hold?
Of the 24 credits required 3 must be in Ethics, the remaining 21 can be in any other line.

When is my review date?
As of January 4, 2010, CE review dates are based on your birth month and birth year. The new CE review date guidelines are below:

Producers and Solicitors with even year dates of birth:
  • Last completed CE review date in 2008 – New CE review date will be the first day of the licensee’s birth month in 2010 and every two years thereafter
  • Last completed CE review date in 2009 – New CE review date will be the first day of the licensee’s birth month in 2012 (this is a change from the initial conversion plan) and every two years thereafter
Producers and Solicitors with odd year dates of birth:
  • Last completed CE review date in 2008 – New CE review date will be the first day of the licensee’s birth month in 2011 and every two years thereafter
  • Last completed CE review date in 2009 – New CE review date will be the first day of the licensee’s birth month in 2011 and every two years thereafter
  • Producers and Solicitors who are assigned a new CE review date in the first six months of 2010 will be granted an automatic one time 90-day extension to complete CE.
Producers and Solicitors with first time CE review dates with even year dates of birth:
  • Licensed in 2008 – New CE review date will be the first day of the licensee’s birth month in 2010 and every two years thereafter
  • Licensed in 2009 – New CE review date will be the first day of the licensee’s birth month in 2012 and every two years thereafter
Producers and Solicitors with first time CE review dates with odd year dates of birth:
  • Licensed in 2008 – New CE review date will be the first day of the licensee’s birth month in 2011 and every two years thereafter
  • Licensed in 2009 – New CE review date will be the first day of the licensee’s birth month in 2011 and every two years thereafter

How far in advance should I have my credits completed?
A CE course provider has up to 30 days from the date of the course to report attendance to Prometric. Prometric has five to seven days to put the data into their system. The recommended time to complete your credits is one month to 45 days before your review date.

What if I don't get my credits completed on time?
If your credits are not completed and reported by your review date, your license will go into suspension. However, an automatic 90-day grace period is granted. If the credits are completed and reported within those 90 days, your license will be reinstated. If you fail to complete and report the credits in those 90 days, your license will be revoked. You will have one year to go through the reinstatement process without having to attend a pre-approved pre-licensing course or take the state exam.

How do I check on my CE credits?
